Technical Writer

Position Description

Specific job responsibilities include the following:

  • Collect inputs from project technical team members and government stakeholders to prepare documentation in support of project lifecycle requirements, including functional requirements, technical design documents, user manuals, training materials, SOPs, etc.
  • Compiling or contributing to monthly progress reports, briefings, papers, meeting agendas and minutes
  • Supporting project manager and project administrator with maintaining project plans
  • Research, write, edit, and publish communications products such as printed material, web content, or presentation / briefing material
  • Communicate with project stakeholders
  • Support application users with understanding of application functionality
  • Support drafting user guides, reference material, training guides, and other policy related documents

Required Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience writing technical documentation for IT projects.
  • Ability to translate technical details into easy-to-understand language
  • Good technical writing skills and ability to peer review written products and technical documents for grammar, content, and style of writing
  • Ability to translate technical details into easy-to-understand language
  • Able to independently initiate, execute, and report tasks as identified by the government
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be ability to work in a team environment
  • Able to draft / edit project documentation deliverables, policies, and other technical documents
  • Experience with data gathering and analytical skills

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of Microsoft SharePoint document management capabilities
  • Experience working on federal government IT projects
